Home > The Area
The area is very unspoiled and much less touristy than most other areas of Tuscany. The locals are very welcoming and there are so many small undiscovered villages close by. The restaurants are fantastic and very reasonably priced.

There are several good restaurants within a 20 min. drive of the villa. Some of our favourite are. Buca del Michelangelo at Caprese Michelangelo (they do a fabulous set Sunday Lunch) and Aboca just past San Sepolcro. These and many others are in the House Book.
The nearest, Pizzeria Ginetto is only 1.5 kms from the house, it's also the bar and it's next to the petrol station. The owner Giovanna , is very friendly and helpful, the food is great too.

Anghiari is an imposing medieval walled town with narrow winding streets, lovely piazzas and commanding views of the Upper Tiber Valley. The town, once fought over by Florence and Milan, is now a prime spot for antique shops. The town also regularly hosts antique and artisan fairs.
Caprese is famous for being the birthplace of Michelangelo Buonarroti, who was born here in 1475 when his father was mayor. His home is today a museum set in the hilltop fortification of old Caprese. Caprese is also famed for its chestnut cultivation, hosting over two weekends each year in October a large festival of the chestnut.
The La Verna monastery is set in an exceptionally panoramic location at an altitude of 1128 meters. It was on this site in 1224 that Saint Francis received the stigmata. In the lovely woodlands that surround La Verna, there are a number of beautiful walks.
Although La Radicata's local village has a full complement of services, Sansepolcro is our nearest town. The narrow medieval streets and piazzas contain a striking collection of 13th century towers and 16th century palazzos together with today's mainstays – numerous pizzerias, tavernas and bars. Its claim to fame is as the birthplace of Piero della Francesco and the local town museum is host to several of his works including the Madonna della Misericordia (1462) and the Resurrection (1463).
The home of St Francis of Assisi (San Francesco) and his beautiful Basilica built in the 13th century.
