Sightseeing:

There are a number of interesting towns within a short distance of Villa Radicata, for more information on other places of interest and events further afield, go to our "Tuscan Events" page.

Anghiari (15 km)  Anghiari is an imposing medieval walled town with narrow winding streets, lovely piazzas and commanding views of the Upper Tiber Valley.  The town, once fought over by Florence and Milan, is now a prime spot for antique shops.  The town also regularly hosts antique and artisan fairs.

Caprese Michelangelo (5km) Caprese is famous for being the birthplace of Michelangelo Buonarroti, who was born here in 1475 when his father was mayor.  His home is today a museum set in the hilltop fortification of old Caprese.  Caprese is also famed for its chestnut cultivation, hosting over two weekends each year in October a large festival of the chestnut.

Chiusi Della Verna (20 km) The La Verna monastery is set in an exceptionally panoramic location at an altitude of 1128 meters.  It was on this site in 1224 that Saint Francis received the stigmata.   In the lovely woodlands that surround La Verna, there are a number of beautiful walks.

Sansepolcro (20 km) Although La Radicata's local village has a full complement of services, Sansepolcro is our nearest town.  The narrow medieval streets and piazzas contain a striking collection of 13th century towers and 16th century palazzos together with today's mainstays – numerous pizzerias, tavernas and bars.  Its claim to fame is as the birthplace of Piero della Francesco and  the local town museum is host to several of his works including  the Madonna della Misericordia (1462) and the Resurrection (1463).
